Japan: A Leading Global Military Force

The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) is actively incorporating AI into its operations and has achieved notable milestones in creating practical Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) systems for secure communication.

Japan's investment in R&D drives breakthroughs in areas like stealth technology, electronic warfare, and autonomous systems, such as Aegis System Equipped Vessels (ASEV) and JAGUAR Project.

As cyber threats advance, Japan is bolstering the cybersecurity sector by allocating a ¥264.3 billion budget for cyber protection, training, and systems development. The SDF Cyber Defence
Command will be expanded to approximately 4,000 by the end of FY
2027.

Japan is a leader in space technology, with its own satellite launch capabilities and multiple projects including the X-Ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission (XRISM), Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM), Lunar Polar Exploration Mission (LUPEX) and many more. 

Japan’s shipbuilding industry produces advanced naval vessels, including destroyers, submarines, and aircraft carriers. A new class of eight 3,900-ton 30FFM multirole frigates is also being built to replace some of the older destroyer classes. 

Japan and the UK agreed to conduct research into the radio frequency sensor technology, also known as a multi-function radar antenna. The universal radio frequency sensor technology “JAGUAR”, will enhance detection of future threats from air, land and sea.
