ペトラ・ジグムント駐日ドイツ連邦共和国大使は、ハイデルベルク大学、ベルリン自由大学、中国人民大学（北京）にて中国学、政治学、経済学を専攻。1994年にドイツ外務省に入省し、さまざまな役職を歴任。2004年から2006年まで在中国大使館貿易促進部長、2006年から2010年まで連邦首相府欧州・EU関連外交担当課長、2010年から2013年まで在フランス大使館報道官兼報道・広報部長を務める。2015年から2017年まで外務省中国・日本・韓国・北朝鮮・モンゴル課長、2017年から2019年まで外務省東アジア・東南アジア・太平洋部長を務めた後、2019年に外務省アジア・太平洋局長に就任。2024年夏に駐日ドイツ連邦共和国大使に着任するまで同職を務めた。ドイツ語のほか、英語、フランス語、中国語も話す。

Petra Sigmund studied sinology, political science and economic policy studies at Heidelberg University, the Free University of Berlin and the People´s University in Beijing. She joined the German Federal Foreign Office in 1994 and has held various positions since then. From 2004 to 2006, she served as Head of the Trade Promotion Office at the German Embassy in Beijing. Between 2006 and 2010, she was in charge of EU relations at the German Federal Chancellery in Berlin, followed by being the spokeswoman of the German Embassy in Paris between 2010 and 2013. From 2015 to 2017, Petra Sigmund served as Head of Division for East Asia at the Federal Foreign Office before being appointed Deputy Director General for East Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific (2017-2019). 2019 she was promoted to Director General for Asia and the Pacific. She held that position until the summer of 2024 when she was appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Japan. Besides German, Petra Sigmund also speaks English, French and Chinese.
