David studied at Loughborough University gaining a BEng in Manufacturing Engineering and Management and is a Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology. In his career he has worked for large international companies including Honeywell, Teledyne, TRW and IDEX, in senior leadership roles. During this time, he gained experience of delivering low-volume, high-technology solutions within regulated industries including Defence, Aerospace and Oil & Gas.

David joined Chess Dynamics in 2011 as Operations Director, delivering operational excellence and supporting the rapid and sustained growth of the business. He was promoted to Deputy Managing Director in 2014 before becoming Managing Director in 2016 and being appointed Group Managing Director of Chess Technologies in 2021. During his leadership of Chess, the business has grown to become a leading Systems Engineering House for Electro-optical Fire Control, Surveillance and Targeting systems for the Land and Maritime defence domains.
