Revolutionary power system solutions for the transition to Net Zero and Electrification in Defence

15 Mar 2023
Room B

As innovators of complex power and propulsion solutions for land, sea and air applications for over 160 armed forces world-wide, Rolls-Royce is focussed on innovating the technology needed for tomorrow.  Our customers are seeking to decarbonise their operations and looking for solutions that will deliver zero-carbon emissions.  The demand for electrical power across all military platforms is intensifying along with the need for more integrated power solutions.

An energy transition is already underway at Rolls-Royce, as we aim to make our products 100% SAF compatible and explore the use of alternate fuels across all our programmes.  However, becoming more electric is another key element of our journey in helping customers decarbonise their operations and enable a new era of electric and hybrid-electric systems for air applications.  From all-electric aviation for future trainers, UAVs and small military transport, to hybrid solutions for larger aircraft that will intelligently combine efficient gas turbines with power-dense electric generation, storage and propulsion systems.  Even for large Combat aircraft of the future, where power density is paramount, we are shifting towards more electric architectures including programmes such as Tempest.

Our naval customers already benefit from our decades of experience in providing hybrid and full electric power and propulsion systems at sea.  As the demand for electrification increases for future complex warships, we will be discussing the critical success factors essential to achieving a right-first-time outcome.
We welcome you to join us to learn and discuss the developments we’re leading to meet our mutual global challenges head on.
