The Yokosuka Council on Asia-Pacific Studies (YCAPS) is a quickly growing NPO which mobilizes the pool of global expertise resident in Japan’s base-hosting communities to support the professional development Indo-Pacific leaders. The City of Yokosuka, with its unique heritage as a maritime hub and being home to both the US Navy and Japanese Self Defense Force, is the center of gravity for YCAPS, but have execute programs throughout Japan. Through seminars, expeditionary learning and social events, YCAPS provides world-class opportunities for people at all stages of their careers, from high school students to retirees. As Japan’s leading bilateral civil-military relations organization, we directly facilitate linkages between the members U.S. military and Japanese Self-Defense Force, government officials, students and members of the business and research communities. The primary offerings supported by YCAPS include the Open Seminar Series (evening events with experts), Young Yokosuka (events tailored for those in their teens and early 20s), Yokosuka Mariners (intercultural leadership training delivered under sail), YCAPS Afloat (supporting Sailors while deployed), and Writers’ Circle (peer support for those seeking to publish their ideas).
