Law Enforcement and Defence: Roles and Cooperation
Over the last few years, cyber-terrorism and attacks have rapidly spread across national borders, sometimes with suspected involvement from nation states. As a result, these crimes are located in a so-called “grey-zone” between crime and national security areas of operation, making them difficult to combat and respond to. Democratic countries following the rule of law struggle to define the role of law enforcement and defence agencies in these grey zones, as demonstrated by the US-led response to the 9/11 attacks. This response is as relevant today as ever before when looking at strategies for combatting cyber-attacks.
In this session, we will discuss the roles of law enforcement and national security or defence agencies, and how they can best cooperate in the context of grey zones.
